Job summary

Dachser SE in Northampton is seeking an Export Customs Supervisor to lead the export customs team and ensure compliant, efficient operation of road-freight clearances. The role focuses on delivering high-quality service to customers across export processes, with emphasis on training new staff and refining workflows.

Reporting to the Export Customs Manager, you will drive continuous improvement, monitor KPIs, and coordinate with HMRC and other authorities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ supervisory experience.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a customs-related role.
• Strong knowledge of third-country customs regulations.
• Good understanding of customs procedures and formalities.
• Experience with CDS and related software.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise export customs team in a fast-paced environment.
• Cover daily operations in absence of Export Customs Manager.
• Provide compliant customs solutions to meet deadlines.
• Review and improve processes without compromising quality.
• Allocate tasks and oversee daily declaration management.
• Produce and monitor KPIs to ensure targets are met.
• Support team with day-to-day issues and queries.
• Ensure smooth handovers between shifts.
• Maintain compliance with Customs, AEO, and SOPs.
• Collaborate with internal teams, customers and authorities.

Purpose Of the Role:

Reporting to the Export Customs Manager, the Export Customs Supervisor ensures the export customs team runs efficiently, compliantly, and in line with all regulatory requirements. With a strong focus on road‑freight clearances, the role is responsible for delivering a high‑quality service to customers across a range of export processes. A key part of the position is supporting new team members, refining workflows, and driving continuous improvement to optimise team performance.

Responsibilities

• Supervising the export customs team in a fast‑paced environment
• Managing daily export operations when the Export Customs Manager is absent
• Providing effective customs solutions to meet service and operational deadlines
• Reviewing and improving processes without compromising quality
• Allocating tasks and overseeing daily declaration management
• Producing and monitoring KPIs to ensure targets are achieved
• Supporting the team with day‑to‑day issues and queries
• Ensuring smooth handovers between shifts
• Maintaining compliance with Customs, AEO, and SOP requirements
• Working closely with internal teams, external customers, and customs authorities (HMRC, Border Force, DEFRA)
• Liaising with Head Office in Kempten on customs matters when required
• Promoting DACHSER values and supporting staff coaching, integration, and performance
• Managing absence records and contributing to appraisals
• Upholding Health & Safety, BRC, and ISO9001 standards
• Supporting a proactive safety culture and ensuring all team members follow H&S practices

The ideal candidate will have

• Minimum 2 years’ supervisory experience
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a customs‑related role
• Good knowledge of third‑country customs regulations
• Strong understanding of customs procedures and formalities
• Working knowledge of CDS and related software
• Awareness of global geography
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong listening skills and ability to understand different perspectives
• Confident problem‑solving and analytical ability
• Professional approach to resolving issues
• Good numerical and IT literacy
• High accuracy and attention to detail
• Strong customer service orientation
• Highly adaptable in a changing environment
