Certified Peer Support Specialist

HJ Staffing is currently seeking a Certified Peer Support Specialist for a rewarding contract assignment with our client. This position supports the Addictions & Transition Services Unit.

The program provides immediate behavioral health support at critical moments of police contact. This role offers an incredible opportunity to make an impact by supporting individuals in crisis and helping connect them to recovery-focused services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver peer-based support to individuals with substance use and / or mental health challenges involved in police diversion efforts.
  • Partner with law enforcement and behavioral health professionals to engage individuals at the point of contact or during key transitions (e.g. emergency departments corrections or shelters).
  • Provide outreach wellness checks and follow-up services to ensure ongoing connection to care.
  • Assist individuals in developing recovery goals and navigating available community resources.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of all services provided.
  • Participate in ongoing team collaboration supervision and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Lived experience with mental health and / or substance use recovery is required.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) credential within 6 months of hire.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Strong communication engagement and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in both independent and collaborative settings.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and recovery-oriented principles is a plus.
Preferred Experience

Prior experience in peer support crisis response or behavioral health settings.

Familiarity with police diversion or criminal justice diversion programs is strongly preferred.
