Job Description

We are looking for a committed and proactive individual to join our Caretaking team in the role of part-time Caretaker for a period of 12 months. This position is essential to maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of our high-rise residential buildings across Sunderland. This role is 22 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with the following working pattern (flexible to discuss at interview):

• Mon: 8am – 1pm
• Tues, Weds, Thurs: 8am – 12pm
• Fri: 8am – 1pm

If you’re looking for a part-time role that enables you to make a genuine impact within your local community, this could be the ideal opportunity for you. You will be required to work at various locations within the Sunderland area, so the ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the post is essential; a driver’s license would be helpful but not essential. A basic DBS check is required and paid for by Gentoo.

As a Caretaker, you will play a key role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall condition of our multi-tenanted properties. Your responsibilities will include:

• Thorough cleaning of internal and external communal spaces
• Safe removal of bulky waste and furniture from shared areas
• Ensuring buildings are secure, safe, and fully operational at all times
• Reporting faults or repairs and keeping accurate records
• Assisting with deliveries and collections as required
• Collaborating with Neighbourhood Coordinators to deliver a customer-focused service
• Using cleaning materials responsibly in line with COSHH and Health & Safety guidelines
• Participating in training, ensuring compliance with security protocols, and raising wellbeing concerns appropriately
• Supporting access for contractors and external partners when needed

What we are looking for

• A full UK driver’s licence is desirable but not essential
• Demonstrable experience cleaning, including the use of cleaning equipment, in commercial or residential settings
• Manual handling knowledge and skills
• Developed communication and customer care skills
• Some knowledge of IT systems
• Knowledge and understanding of relevant Health and Safety Legislation
• Knowledge of current COSHH regulations
