Business Development Manager – Surgical Portfolio
Central London | Field Based

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Development Manager to join an established international medical technology organisation during an ambitious period of growth within its surgical division.

This is a newly created, elevated position offering the opportunity to take ownership of strategic business development across a specialist surgical portfolio, driving revenue growth, expanding key accounts and identifying new commercial opportunities.

The successful candidate will play an influential role within the wider commercial team, working closely with senior leadership while helping to develop sales capability, share best practice and coach colleagues to maximise commercial performance.

The Role

This is a predominantly new business development-focused position, with responsibility for driving growth across a surgical medical device portfolio encompassing advanced energy devices, surgical consumables and rigid endoscopy solutions.

Focusing primarily on Central London, you'll develop and execute strategic business plans, build relationships with key clinical and commercial stakeholders, and identify opportunities to increase product adoption and market penetration across NHS and private healthcare providers.

Alongside your own commercial responsibilities, you'll act as a senior sales resource, supporting the wider team through coaching, sharing successful sales strategies and promoting a consistent approach to business development.

You'll need to be equally comfortable engaging with senior decision-makers, developing new business opportunities and getting involved in the clinical environment when required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategic business development plans to drive revenue growth across the surgical portfolio
  • Identify, develop and secure new business opportunities across NHS and private healthcare markets
  • Drive account penetration, product adoption and increased market share across the territory
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with surgeons, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), theatre managers and senior hospital stakeholders
  • Develop relationships across Gynaecology and General Surgery disciplines
  • Promote a specialist portfolio of advanced energy devices, surgical consumables and rigid endoscopy products
  • Identify opportunities for capital equipment placements and ongoing consumable sales
  • Navigate hospital procurement processes, tenders, pricing negotiations and purchasing frameworks
  • Deliver product presentations, demonstrations and clinical education to surgeons and healthcare professionals
  • Provide hands-on technical product support and attend live surgical procedures where required
  • Monitor competitor activity, market trends and emerging commercial opportunities
  • Work closely with clinical specialists, marketing and internal commercial teams
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic sales initiatives and business growth plans
  • Coach and support colleagues, sharing sales best practice and effective business development strategies
  • Help elevate the overall sales approach, commercial capability and performance of the wider team

  • A strong understanding of NHS and private hospital procurement processes
  • Experience navigating tenders, purchasing frameworks and commercial negotiations
  • A demonstrable track record of generating new business and delivering revenue growth
  • The ability to develop strategic account plans and identify opportunities for increased market penetration
  • Experience supporting, mentoring or coaching other sales professionals
  • Strong commercial acumen and the confidence to engage with senior leadership
  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills
  • A proactive, resilient and self-motivated approach
  • The ability to work autonomously and manage a field-based territory effectively

A degree in Life Sciences, Business or a relevant clinical/commercial discipline would be advantageous.
