Business Manager – Engineering Consultancy (UK)

Location: Remote with travel to client sites and office Hubs in Manchester/London

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Business Manager to lead a high-performing unit within an engineering consultancy environment. This role is structured as a profit-centre and is ideal for someone who thrives on developing business opportunities, managing client relationships, and leading technical teams. You’ll play a central role in expanding the UK client base and driving sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Development: Identify, pursue, and secure new consulting projects within engineering sectors such as aerospace, transportation, energy, and manufacturing. Build and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers and stakeholders to understand their technical and operational needs
  • Client Expansion: Grow existing client accounts by spotting additional opportunities for service delivery. Work closely with key stakeholders to expand the range and depth of consultancy engagements.
  • Account Management: Ensure long-term client satisfaction by maintaining regular contact, managing expectations, and continuously identifying ways to add value to ongoing projects.
  • Resource & Workforce Planning: Coordinate the deployment of consultants and technical experts across active and upcoming projects, ensuring optimal team composition and capacity planning.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and support a team of engineers and consultants. Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment with a focus on professional growth and project excellence.
  • Strategic Direction: Collaborate on the long-term planning for your business unit, contributing to decisions around resourcing, new service offerings, and geographic expansion.
  • Performance Oversight: Monitor and evaluate team performance, initiate development programs, and ensure alignment with business and client objectives.

You’ll work directly with the UK leadership team and benefit from structured onboarding, continuous learning opportunities, and access to international project exposure. This role includes mentoring pathways, leadership development, and the chance to influence both operational and strategic outcomes at a business-unit level.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Experience in engineering consultancy or technical services, with a strong track record in business development and client acquisition
  • Proven ability to manage and expand key accounts, delivering measurable growth and sustained client relationships
  • Solid HR and resource planning skills, including leading technical teams across complex projects
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities with a pragmatic, commercially focused mindset
  • Capacity to juggle multiple priorities and manage diverse project pipelines
