Job summary

West Sussex County Council in Chichester is offering an 18-month apprenticeship combining office-based and home working. You will earn a salary while gaining a nationally recognised qualification and work with our Highways, Transport and Planning directorate.

About The Job

Salary:£24,796 to £25,185 per annum

Working Pattern:37 hours per week

Contract Length:18-month apprenticeship

Location:Chichester, with a blend of office-based and home working (where service needs allow)

Are you looking to start your career while earning a salary and gaining a nationally recognised qualification? We are looking for an enthusiastic apprentice who is keen to learn, develop new skills and make a real difference to local communities.

In this role you will work alongside colleagues to provide a customer focused service to others.

You will be part of our Highways, Transport and Planning directorate, helping support projects and services that keep people moving safely across West Sussex. You will gain experience across a wide range of services that have a real impact on local communities.

About the role

You will be involved in several activities including:

  • Database maintenance and management
  • Dealing with customer enquiries and liaising with stakeholders
  • Administrative support for teams such as Business Assurance and Planning Services
  • Helping coordinate projects, supporting improvement activities and contributing to the smooth running of key services
  • Supporting operational and project meetings.

Your apprenticeship will last for 18 months and during this time you’ll spend around 20% of your working week studying. We’ll provide you with the flexibility and support you need to learn while you work, but you’ll need to have the commitment and dedication necessary to successfully balance your studies with your day-to-day role.

You will undertake and complete the various elements of the Advanced Apprenticeship, likely to be a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at Level 3, a Business Administration Certificate, Functional Skills, and Employment Responsibilities and Rights.

This role would suit someone who is:

  • Organised and willing to learn
  • A confident communicator who enjoys working with people
  • Able to manage their time and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable using technology and learning

You will need to have five GCSE passes at Grade C or above (4-9) including English Language and Maths, as well as a full valid UK driving licence.
