Job summary

Staffordshire County Council in the West Midlands is seeking an apprentice Business Support Assistant to join our team. You will support practitioners with a wide range of administrative tasks in line with service level agreements, starting you on a purposeful local-government career.

You will undertake a Level 3 Business Administration qualification; if you have already completed Level 3, you will not be eligible to apply.

Qualifications

  • Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent) at Grade 4 or above.
  • Willing to undertake an Level 3 Business Administration qualification.
  • Good IT skills and attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Support practitioners with administrative tasks across a range of duties.
  • Work in line with service level agreements to ensure smooth operations.
  • Develop organisational skills and adapt to changing priorities.

Main Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an apprentice business support assistant to join our team.

You will support practitioners, undertaking a wide range of administrative tasks in line with relevant service level agreements.

This role is a brilliant launchpad into a purposeful career for those looking for their first step into Local Government, or seeking a career change.

As part of this Apprentice role you will be supported in undertaking a Level 3 Business Administration qualification.

Please note if you have already completed a Level 3 Business Administration qualification, you will not be eligible to apply for these roles.

An apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to work towards a recognised qualification using the knowledge gained from your studies within your role. Further details will be discussed at interview.

The Ideal Candidate

Working in Business Support requires teamwork, good organisational skills and a good level of competency using IT systems.

  • Maths & English GCSE (or equivalent) at Grade 4+
  • Keen to develop your skills and undertake an apprenticeship within Business Administration
  • Good IT skills and attention to detail, as you will be keeping data updated and you will be working to deadlines
  • Good communication and teamwork skills because you will interact with lots of people across the organisation and externally through phone, in person and email
  • A flexible approach to work as sometimes things can change, and so you will need to be able to prioritise work and sometimes change tasks quickly

Interviews will take place week commencing week commencing 14th September 2026
Our Recruitment Process

First stage will be your application form where we will ask a couple of questions about why you have applied for the role and what you think you can bring.

If we receive a high volume of applicants the next stage may be an automated video interview where we will send you a couple of questions for you to reply to with recorded video answers.

Final stage will be an in person assessment at our office which will include some interview questions.
