A facilities management company in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Building Surveyor. This role involves conducting on-site surveys, diagnosing defects, and producing reports with recommendations. You will prepare budgets and work closely with clients to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate has expertise in defect diagnosis and site supervision, alongside experience with CDM regulations. This position requires strong stakeholder engagement and management skills in a regulated environment.
VIVO provides facilities management and accommodation maintenance for the UK military and its partners. VIVO embodies both experience and innovation. We put our Customers and Families First. They are the driving force behind everything we do. We drive forward improvements for them to ensure the service they receive, whether reactive repairs or a major project, is completed safely and on time. In order to achieve this, we have 4 core values: open, caring, agile and collaborative. These are at the heart of everything we do.
You will undertake detailed on-site surveys, identify defects and produce clear, well-reasoned reports with practical recommendations for remedial works. You will prepare schedules of work, specifications and budgets using the NHF Schedule of Rates, ensuring proposed solutions align with ISO 55000 principles and support whole-life cost, sustainability and carbon-reduction objectives.
Working collaboratively with clients, end users and the supply chain, you will help agree scopes, priorities and delivery programmes for Billable Works. You will ensure all works comply with statutory, health and safety and environmental requirements, including CDM regulations, JSP 375, asbestos and legionella management.
The role also includes managing additional professional services such as structural surveys, reviewing technical reports, attending risk meetings and maintaining accurate records within asset management systems.
From a commercial perspective, you will work closely with quantity surveyors to develop cost-effective solutions, monitor financial progress against milestones and support effective risk management to ensure value for money and efficient delivery.
You will have demonstrable experience as a Building Surveyor, with strong capability in defect diagnosis, specification writing and the management of repair and maintenance works. You will be confident engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, managing costs and priorities, and supervising site activities in line with safe systems of work. A sound working knowledge of CDM regulations is essential, with experience acting as Principal Designer and/or Principal Contractor highly desirable.
Experience within construction, property maintenance or a similar environment is required, with exposure to MOD estates, NEC contracts, asbestos legislation, accessibility requirements and sustainability principles being advantageous. You will be organised, analytical and comfortable working in a regulated, operational environment where quality, safety and compliance are critical.
