Job summary

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Grantham, Lincolnshire. You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, build positive relationships with pupils, and promote calm, safe learning through clear boundaries and de‑escalation techniques.

Experience in education, care or support work is welcomed. This supply role offers ongoing placement support with potential to move into a full‑time/permanent position, and requires safeguarding knowledge

Qualifications

• Experience working with challenging behaviours in education/care/support environments.
• Ability to apply positive behaviour strategies and support students through dysregulation.
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils who require additional behavioural and emotional support.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a consistent and supportive role model.
• Promote positive behaviour through clear boundaries, encouragement and appropriate behaviour strategies.
• Support pupils during periods of dysregulation or challenging behaviour, using calm and de-escalation techniques.
• Help pupils to re-engage with learning and develop the confidence and skills needed to participate successfully in school life.
• Work closely with teachers and support staff to implement individual behaviour and support plans.
• Identify and communicate changes in behaviour, wellbeing or engagement to relevant staff.
• Encourage pupils to develop independence, resilience, social skills and emotional regulation.
• Help maintain a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Follow school policies relating to safeguarding, behaviour, health and safety and confidentiality.
