Job summary

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Grantham. You will work with pupils who display challenging behaviours, providing consistent, positive guidance and supporting engagement with learning throughout the school day.

The role focuses on de-escalation, building trusting relationships, and implementing individual support plans in collaboration with teachers and support staff.

Qualifications

• Experienced in working with challenging behaviours in education, care or support settings.
• Calm, patient and resilient in challenging situations.
• Confident building positive and trusting relationships with young people.
• Able to use positive behaviour strategies and support pupils through dysregulation.
• Compassionate and understanding while maintaining clear boundaries.
• Strong communicator working well in a school team.
• Happy to work on a supply basis with potential to move to full-time/permanent.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils requiring additional behavioural and emotional support.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils as a consistent role model.
• Promote positive behaviour through clear boundaries and appropriate strategies.
• Support pupils during dysregulation using de-escalation techniques.
• Help pupils re-engage with learning and develop confidence to participate in school life.
• Work with teachers to implement individual behaviour and support plans.
• Identify and communicate changes in behaviour, wellbeing or engagement to staff.
• Encourage independence, resilience, social skills and emotional regulation.
• Maintain a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Follow safeguarding, behaviour, health and safety policies.
