Job summary

GSL Education is seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant in Sheffield to help students across Key Stages 3 and 4 stay engaged and manage behaviours positively. You will support lessons, transitions and group activities, building strong relationships with pupils and staff.

The role focuses on fostering confidence, independence and positive attitudes to learning within a structured school environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach to behaviour management.
  • Confidence supporting adolescent learners across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers and pastoral teams.
  • A genuine commitment to helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
  • Behaviour support, pastoral or secondary education experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with behaviour, engagement and emotional regulation.
  • Work alongside subject teachers to provide effective classroom support.
  • Build positive relationships with students and small groups.
  • Support students during lessons, transitions and less structured parts of the school day.
  • Encourage positive participation in learning and school activities.
  • Help maintain a calm, safe and structured learning environment.
  • Share relevant observations and feedback with teachers and pastoral staff.

Job Title: Behaviour Support Assistant

Location: Sheffield

Salary: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)

Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

Start Date: Immediately

Are you passionate about helping young people manage challenges and get the most from their education? A welcoming secondary school in Sheffield is looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant to join its team.

About the Role:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them remain engaged in learning and manage behaviour positively. You will work alongside subject teachers and pastoral staff, providing support in lessons, during transitions and where students need additional guidance.

The role offers the opportunity to build strong relationships with young people while helping them develop confidence, independence and positive approaches to their education.

Staff work closely across different departments and pastoral teams, with a strong focus on positive behaviour, safeguarding and supporting students throughout their secondary education.

To work with GSL Education as a Behaviour Support Assistant, you should:
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.
  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.

We also offer, via our partner, access to accredited Education-relevant CPD courses.

In addition to that, GSL Education are currently offering £100 for the successful referral of either Teachers or Teaching Assistants (Ts & Cs apply).
