Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment LTD. is assisting a secondary school in Barking & Dagenham to recruit a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to support pupils within the pastoral team. The role starts from November 2026 and the school operates on a term-time schedule.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting young people in schools, a calm and resilient approach, and the ability to build strong, supportive relationships to improve engagement and behaviour.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with young people, particularly within a school or youth setting.
• Experience supporting challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
• Calm, patient and resilient personality.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Confident managing challenging situations.
• Able to set clear boundaries while remaining supportive and approachable.
• Passionate about helping young people reach their potential.
• A team player with a positive and proactive approach.

Responsibilities

• Supporting students with behavioural, social and emotional needs.
• Working 1:1 and in small groups with students who require additional support.
• Helping students manage their behaviour and emotions.
• Developing positive and trusting relationships with students.
• Supporting students to improve their engagement, attendance and attitude towards learning.
• Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the SEN team.
• Helping to implement individual behaviour and support plans.
• De-escalating challenging situations calmly and professionally.
• Encouraging students to develop independence, resilience and positive behaviour.
