Job summary

Ribbons & Reeves is recruiting a Behaviour Mentor for a Pupil Referral Unit in London. The role focuses on supporting students who have struggled in mainstream education, with a strong emphasis on building trust and re-engaging learners.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring, help with emotional regulation and de-escalation, and work alongside teachers to implement consistent behaviour strategies in a safe, supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people is desirable but not essential.
• Experience in PRU, AP, SEMH, behaviour, youth work, mentoring or care is advantageous.
• Resilient and confident in managing challenging behaviour.
• Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
• Able to maintain professional boundaries and consistency.

Responsibilities

• Build positive relationships with students who may be disengaged or resistant to education.
• Support young people who have been excluded from mainstream school.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring and behavioural support.
• Help students develop emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
• De-escalate challenging situations using calm and consistent approaches.
• Encourage students to attend, participate and re-engage with learning.
• Support students during lessons, transitions and unstructured periods.
• Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to maintain consistent behaviour strategies.
• Help students develop confidence, resilience and independence.
