Job summary

Timeplan Education in North London is recruiting an experienced and resilient Behaviour Mentor to support secondary pupils with SEMH at a specialist school in Enfield. The role focuses on helping pupils regulate emotions, manage behaviour and engage with learning.

You will provide 1:1 and group support, build positive relationships with pupils and staff, and use de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviours while following EHCPs and risk assessments.

Qualifications

• Experience working with SEMH pupils is desirable.
• Experience in supporting behaviour management or mentoring roles.
• Commitment to safeguarding and professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
• Building strong, positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Supporting pupils who may display challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
• Using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to prevent escalation.
• Helping pupils identify triggers and develop healthier strategies for managing anger and difficult emotions.
• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, resilience, self-esteem and social skills.
• Encouraging pupils to re-engage with learning after dysregulation.
• Supporting teachers with behaviour management within the classroom.
• Providing pastoral and mentoring support to pupils who may be struggling socially or emotionally.
• Encouraging positive choices, accountability and conflict resolution.
• Following EHCPs, behaviour plans and risk assessments.
• Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams and SEND professionals.

About the Role

We are currently recruiting an experienced and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist SEMH school in Enfield, supporting secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

The pupils all have Education, Health and Care Plans with SEMH as their primary area of need.

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play an important role in helping pupils to regulate their emotions, manage their behaviour, engage positively with education and develop stronger relationships with both staff and peers.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people who may have experienced barriers to education and require a consistent, patient and positive adult presence.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.

• Building strong, positive and professional relationships with pupils.

• Supporting pupils who may display challenging or dysregulated behaviour.

• Using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to prevent situations from escalating.

• Helping pupils identify triggers and develop healthier strategies for managing anger, frustration and difficult emotions.

• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, resilience, self-esteem and social skills.

• Encouraging pupils to re-engage with learning following periods of dysregulation.

• Supporting teachers with behaviour management within the classroom.

• Providing pastoral and mentoring support to pupils who may be struggling socially or emotionally.

• Encouraging positive choices, accountability and conflict resolution.

• Following individual EHCPs, behaviour plans and risk assessments.

• Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, SEND professionals and other members of staff.

• Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and professional boundaries at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

• Patient and able to understand the reasons behind a young person's behaviour.

• Confident using de-escalation and positive behaviour management strategies.

• Able to remain professional and composed during difficult situations.

• Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to education.

• Reliable, proactive and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Previous experience working within SEMH schools, PRUs, Alternative Provisions, youth work, mentoring, residential care, SEND, mental health or behaviour support would be highly desirable.
