Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife to lead one of our inpatient teams. The post requires an enthusiastic, committed midwife to join our established, dynamic and forward-thinking maternity team. The midwife will be a highly motivated practitioner with a vision to support women and families through their pregnancy, birth and postnatal period. The post holder will be part of a team of highly trained, dedicated midwives with excellent organisational and communication skills and will demonstrate leadership, provide compassionate care, and work within the values of Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
Responsibilities
- Lead and work within an inpatient midwifery team, taking autonomous clinical decisions in emergency situations to ensure safe outcomes for mother and baby.
- Act as an advanced practitioner with specialist knowledge, skills, competencies and experience who can advise, mentor and train colleagues and students.
- Demonstrate high-level clinical skills for epidural management/top ups (inpatients), suturing, cannulation, and water births (across all services). Competent in home births when working in the community.
- Demonstrate competency in adult and newborn resuscitation.
- Provide an environment where these skills are shared through teaching in partnership with the practice development midwife.
- Demonstrate facilitation of normal birth, with care for women in physiological labour.
- Provide holistic support for women’s emotional, spiritual and psychological needs.
- Support labour with non-pharmacological pain relief, including the use of water for labour and birth.
Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced practitioner with specialist knowledge and experience in midwifery.
- Ability to mentor and train colleagues and students.
- Competence in high-level clinical skills listed above and in resuscitation.
