Band 5 Substance Misuse Nurse

Location: HMP Downview

Salary: £28,407 per annum plus benefits

Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time

We are recruiting for a Band 5 Substance Misuse Nurse.

Here at Forward Trust, we deliver a complex range of drug and alcohol services in the unique prison environment. Our support includes providing advice, health and wellbeing, motivational work, clinical services, and a wider range of group work and treatment programmes.

The Forward Trust services, delivered within prison settings, are commissioned by NHS England and are delivered in partnership with primary healthcare providers and HMPPS. Integration and partnership are core to our work.

We believe everyone can live a fulfilling life, regardless of their past. Our prison work aims to support those affected by drug or alcohol issues to create lasting change and reduce dependency, homelessness, unemployment, and re-offending.

Role Responsibilities

As a Band 5 Substance Misuse Nurse with The Forward Trust, you will deliver high-quality, nurse-led clinical and psychosocial interventions to individuals with substance misuse issues in a prison setting. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Clinical Assessment & Care Planning: Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop personalised care plans.
  2. Treatment Delivery: Administer and monitor prescribed treatments, including medication-assisted therapies, following clinical guidelines.
  3. Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with healthcare professionals, prison staff, and external agencies for holistic care.
  4. Health Promotion & Education: Provide health education and advice to promote recovery and wellbeing.
  5. Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate patient records, ensuring compliance with standards.
  6. Safeguarding & Risk Management: Identify safeguarding concerns and implement risk management strategies.
The Ideal Candidate

Essential skills and experience:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid NMC PIN.
  • Minimum of one year post-registration experience.
  • Experience or keen interest in substance misuse nursing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience in a prison or secure healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of substance misuse treatment protocols and harm reduction strategies.
  • Additional qualifications or training in substance misuse or mental health nursing.
