Job description

The Bakery Supervisor at WatchHouse plays a vital role in delivering our food vision through consistent, high-quality production. This hands-on role suits someone who thrives in a structured, process-led environment, with strong attention to detail and a passion for quality, consistency, and provenance.

Reporting to the Bakery Manager and Assistant Manager, the Supervisor follows the daily production plan and takes ownership of day-to-day operations. They are responsible for organising the production schedule, ensuring all products are made to specification, and that orders are fulfilled accurately and on time.

As a key leader in the bakery, the Supervisor is also accountable for maintaining food safety and hygiene standards, supporting team development, and fostering a culture of compliance and continuous improvement. They are involved in training and supporting bakers and bakery assistants, while also developing their own skills in line with WatchHouse standards.

Directly reports into (Line Manager): Bakery Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Follow and ensure adherence to production processes and recipes to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  2. Maintain product quality and ensure all items are produced to correct recipes and specifications for consistency.
  3. Train bakers and bakery assistants to produce and dispatch orders correctly.
  4. Manage bakery stock, ensuring items are ordered or on the order list, while minimizing wastage.
  5. Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and maintain safe food practices.

The role in more detail:

  1. Ensure bakery is properly resourced and equipped for efficient operation.
  2. Assign team members according to the daily production schedule.
  3. Support the bakery manager with training new team members.
  4. Maintain a positive, engaged team committed to excellent service.
  5. Ensure equipment safety and maintenance issues are addressed promptly.
  6. Use the daily Trail log correctly and effectively.
  7. Set and uphold hygiene and cleaning standards, managing cleaning rotas.
  8. Collaborate with the bakery manager on launching new products to high standards.
  9. Oversee production to ensure recipes and specifications are followed.

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to provide feedback and hold teams accountable.
  • Level 3 Food Hygiene (or completion during probation) and HACCP knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to support team well-being.
  • Keen attention to detail for product consistency.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of recipe scaling, adherence, and discrepancy investigation.
  • Experience in stock management and cost control.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
