Job summary

RMG Digital is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, build and maintain scalable backend services in a modern cloud-native stack. You will develop APIs powering the insurance platform, mobile apps and partner integrations, while shaping architecture and technical direction with a collaborative team.

The role offers a fully remote setup within the UK, regular monthly meet‑ups, and an optional London coworking space for in-person collaboration.

Qualifications

• Commercial experience developing backend applications with Node.js.
• Strong JavaScript and TypeScript experience.
• Solid understanding of software architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience designing and building production‑grade APIs.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and CS fundamentals.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Experience working within Agile environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Develop APIs and services supporting the insurance platform, mobile apps and third‑party integrations.
• Contribute to system architecture and help shape long‑term engineering strategy.
• Collaborate with Product, Design and Engineering to deliver high‑quality features.
• Take ownership of services, ensuring reliability, scalability and observability.
• Participate in on‑call support and continuously improve system performance.
