Job summary

Spectrum IT in Southampton, Hampshire is seeking a Senior Developer (Node.js / TypeScript) to help maintain a highly available platform handling millions of orders daily. The role is about 75% backend work with Node.js and TypeScript, plus some React frontend tasks.

You will own features end-to-end from design through deployment and production performance, with strong emphasis on reliability and thoughtful engineering. Hybrid: 2 days per week in the office (Tuesday and Thursday).

Qualifications

• Strong commercial backend development experience with Node.js.
• Experience designing and developing distributed systems, ideally involving APIs, event-driven architecture and asynchronous processing.
• Experience with TypeScript is highly desirable, but not essential.
• Knowledge of React, Go or Site Reliability Engineering would also be beneficial.
• The wider technology environment includes NestJS, Google Cloud, Pub/Sub, MongoDB, Redis, Terraform, GitHub Actions and Datadog.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and operate a highly available integration platform built around distributed services.
• Mostly backend development with Node.js and TypeScript, with some React frontend work.
• Own your work from initial design and development through to deployment and production performance.
• Improve reliability, monitoring and recovery across distributed systems.
• Develop new integrations and services connecting customer platforms with warehouse systems.
• Introduce Go where performance requirements justify it.
• Contribute to infrastructure, architecture and technical decisions.
• The team operates with autonomy and expects responsible, well-justified technical decisions.
