Autism Teaching Assistant (CSASDTA) City of Preston, England. A Good primary school in Preston, Lancashire is looking for an experienced Autism specialist Teaching Assistant for a position starting as soon as possible. This is a long-term, full-time role with immediate start.

ASD specialist TA should have worked with young pupils on the autism spectrum, understand IEPs, and be able to apply de-escalation techniques while supporting SEN pupils with resilience and dedication.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of autism and how to use IEPs to support pupils.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with classroom activities and individualised learning plans.
  • Apply de-escalation techniques to maintain a calm learning environment.
  • Monitor pupil progress and communicate with SEN staff.

ASD Teaching Assistant Information:

  • For this position you will need to be an experienced Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant who has worked with young pupils on the Autism spectrum.
  • You will need a strong understanding of the autism spectrum and how to use specific IEP's to provide effective support to this pupil.
  • You will have to be able to keep the pupil focused on their work and be aware of any particular triggers that may cause a behavioural reaction.
  • Should there be a reaction, having a variety of de-escalating techniques to help control the pupil and the situation.
  • Working with SEN pupils has to be a passion, as everyday will propose different obstacles for you to overcome.
  • It can be a very challenging and emotionally testing position, but having resilience and tenacity to persevere will be key in succeeding.
  • Although this is a challenging role, it is hugely rewarding, seeing a pupil progress under your guidance is uplifting and makes all the tough times worthwhile.
