Job summary

POWYS COUNTY COUNCIL is seeking a proactive HR professional to provide specialist advice on sickness absence, attendance management, and employee wellbeing. You will work with managers to navigate policies, support staff, and drive positive attendance outcomes across the organisation.

You will analyse absence data, deliver training, and support return-to-work processes while ensuring compliance with employment legislation.

Qualifications

• Experience in an HR, employee relations, or people management role.
• Strong knowledge of sickness absence management, wellbeing, and HR policies.
• Excellent communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
• Practical, solution-focused approach to supporting managers.
• Strong analytical and organisational skills, with confidence using HR systems and data.
• Empathy, professionalism, and a commitment to equality, inclusion, and excellent service.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice to managers and schools on sickness absence, attendance, and wellbeing matters.
• Support and guide managers through return-to-work meetings, welfare discussions, attendance reviews, occupational health referrals, and capability processes.
• Deliver training and coaching to help managers apply policies and manage attendance issues.
• Analyse absence data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Promote wellbeing initiatives and support resources, including wellbeing action plans, stress risk assessments, and the Employee Assistance Program.
• Ensure compliance with policies and employment legislation, managing sensitive cases and escalating complex matters when required.
