In order to achieve this aim we are delighted to be investing within the Middle Market segment which mainly focus on domestic and international clients with increasing complexity across Property and Casualty lines in the UK. This evolving Underwriting practice will be supported by dedicated teams in Distribution, Claims, Operations, Actuarial and Risk Consulting.

We are looking for Underwriters across the UK who have proven experience in the Middle Market P&C segment, with an inquisitive and entrepreneurial mindset, a desire to find innovative ways to meet client needs and develop business opportunities across multiple products.

What you’ll be doing

As an Assistant Underwriter you will work with our industry leading Underwriters to support them through the underwriting process for new and renewal business, ensuring that our clients and Brokers experience the highest level of service.

You will have the opportunity to work with our Actuarial experts to learn how to use pricing models and systems to support the underwriting process, as well as building your experience to work towards gaining your own underwriting authority.

What will your role as an Assistant Underwriter include?

  • Pre‑underwriting preparation for new business opportunities and renewal submissions, including compliance and clearance checks
  • Working with underwriters to analyse and prepare underwriting information, reviewing insured values, loss data, and liaising with risk consulting and cat modelling teams as required
  • Working with underwriters to review technical pricing models and policy wordings and conditions to ensure risks are within appetite and aligned with group guidelines / specific global property underwriting rules & guidelines
  • Prepare post‑bind handover documentation for underwriters to check prior to handover to Middle Office.
  • Working closely with middle office teams in the handover of bound risks, to track the processing of accounts, and assist with any enquiries and/or required amendments
  • Working with Middle Office to ensure a consistent and compliant process flow and data accuracy.
  • Working with underwriters to review mid‑term adjustments and endorsement requests for existing business
  • Ensuring all underwriting activities are documented on the underwriting systems to the required data quality standards
  • Support underwriting managers by reviewing and sourcing portfolio management data / reports to ensure compliance with internal key performance indicators.
  • Support underwriting managers with ad‑hoc administrative tasks as required. Building an internal network to support sharing of information and data between functions

You will report to the Underwriting manager.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and experience in insurance with a focus on Property insurance
  • Ideally, you will understand the fundamentals of the Insurance industry, and/or have experience conducting detailed due diligence and operational set‑ups within an insurance context
  • Basic understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance, for example Lloyd’s and the FCA
  • Customer first approach with experience in improving customer journeys, particularly within a governance or control environment
