Job summary

Havens Hospices is seeking an Assistant Shop Manager for our busy Basildon store. You will lead shop staff and volunteers, manage stock and promotions, and support the Shop Manager in their absence.

This part-time role includes flexible days across a 7-day pattern and opportunities to grow the shop’s ecommerce and Gift Aid initiatives. We emphasise delivering excellent customer service to the local community and contributing to Havens Hospices’ care services while maintaining a positive team

• Ability to drive sales and cost control in a busy shop.
• Strong communication with colleagues and local community.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day shop operations and staff/volunteer management.
• Oversee stock, merchandising, promotions, and achieving sales targets.
• Provide cover for Shop Manager in their absence and support area store network.
• Develop the shop's ecommerce activities and Gift Aid promotions.
• Communicate effectively with local community and Havens Hospices teams.

Job description

We have an opportunity for an Assistant Shop Manager to join us in our popular and busy Basildon store.,

• To effectively manage the day to day running of the shop staff and volunteers, providing effective leadership and encourage the team to maximise potential.
• To manage stock, maximise profit and minimise costs, and achieve sales targets, initiating marketing campaigns and sales promotions.
• Take full responsibility for managing the shop in the Shop Manager's absence.
• To maintain an awareness of developments in local shops, especially in the Charity /low-cost sector, updating the Shop Manager as required.
• To maintain and develop good channels of communication with colleagues in other Havens Hospices Shops, local communities, and organisations.
• To provide cover for other Assistant Shop Managers from time to time in other stores, as required by your Area Manager.
• To assist in developing the shop's ecommerce business
• To actively promote Gift Aid, sign up donors and support performance targets.
• To make day-to-day decisions to ensure the successful and safe trading operation of the shop.
  This is a part-time position, with the working pattern worked flexibly, 3 days within 7 days, including a Saturday or Sunday.

You will support the Shop Manager in delivering sales, developing the team and shop, all whilst delivering an excellent standard of customer service within the local community. At Havens Hospices, we care for children, young people and adults with complex or incurable conditions. Our specialist Care Teams can support them and their family living throughout illness, death and bereavement in the comfort of their own home and through our hospice services, Fair Havens and Little Havens.
