This Assistant Project Manager will report to the Programme Manager and work within the Capital Programme based in our Crawley office. You will be a permanent employee.

Salary: £65,241 + 3% bonus. Blended working after 6 months probation – 3 days in office, 2 remote.

Job Purpose

As the Assistant Project Manager (APM) you will assist Project Managers and Programme Managers in delivering the Capital Investment Programme of Projects and Connections projects. The APM will deliver work packages within a single project across several projects or deliver smaller value projects in totality.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Support the Project Manager or Programme Manager in delivering large, high‑profile projects managing several contracts and key stakeholders.
  • Assist in gaining project approvals and manage project expenditure within sanctioned budgetary limits. Governance gates B C and D.
  • Organise mission‑focused work team meetings and actions arising.
  • Compile input to weekly safety reports.
  • Help prepare reports for monthly client reviews.
  • Become a Project Controls Systems superuser.
  • Support the PM or PRGM in delivering a portfolio of projects ensuring all safety, quality and environmental standards are observed.
  • Deliver a portfolio of projects to required Programme and Output dates.
  • Monthly reporting of Projects.
  • Compile Project Execution Plans, Project Quality Plans and Contractual Documents where required.
  • Produce Governance documentation where required.
  • Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
  • Capture and implement project lessons learnt.
  • Mitigate scope change and risk across projects.
Stakeholder Management
Internal
  • Portfolio Manager – oversee the development of trainees and assign them to a Programme of works.
  • Programme Manager – provide daily direction and guidance to trainees while delivering projects.
  • Project Manager – provide daily direction and guidance to APM while delivering projects.
  • Quantity Surveyor – liaison with the commercial team to ensure data accuracy for project forecasts and expenditure reporting.
  • Project Planner – liaison with the planning team to ensure reliable forecasts and expenditure reporting.
  • Procurement – liaison with supply chain strategies and representatives for contracts and materials.
  • Design Team – consultation with design engineers on specification and design progress for delivery to time, cost and quality.
  • HSEQ Team – ensure safety is at the forefront of project delivery.
  • Asset Management – liaison throughout the project lifecycle to manage scope and cost and meet project mandate.
  • Connections Project Manager – liaison in delivery of customer‑funded projects.
  • Network Operations – liaison throughout the project lifecycle to ensure the network is not compromised and that the project is delivered following operational requirements.
  • PMO – support in monthly and yearly reporting, risk review and gate acceptance to allow project progression.
External
  • Local authorities, councils, police, buses, residents and businesses.
  • Supply chain contractors.
  • Land owners and leaseholders.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience of LV/HV/EHV electrical distribution network (Transmission/DNO/Private Networks) desirable.
  • Engineering discipline or project management qualification to HNC level preferred; ONC or equivalent required.
  • Membership of a professional institute (IEE, ICE, APM preferred but not essential.
  • Safety management CSCS/IOSH preferred but not essential.
  • Training will be provided.
  • Demonstrable work experience in a project delivery / construction environment.
