Job summary

Sulzer Leeds is seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to assemble complex centrifugal pump assemblies in line with engineering drawings and quality standards. You will fit bearings, shafts, impellers and seals, ensuring precise alignment and compliance with specifications at our Leeds facility.

Experience with rotating equipment in a manufacturing/industrial environment is essential. A time-served apprenticeship and strong tooling skills are required; Sulzer offers training, a competitive salary,

Qualifications

• Reading engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience assembling rotating equipment such as pumps, gearboxes or similar machinery.
• Skilled with hand tools and precision measuring instruments.

Responsibilities

• Assemble centrifugal pump assemblies per drawings, specs and quality standards.
• Carry out mechanical fitting including bearings, shaft, impeller, seals and final pump build.
• Interpret engineering documents to ensure accurate component assembly and alignment.

From bespoke, large-scale engineered solutions to complex rotodynamic technologies, our teams tackle some of the most demanding technical challenges in the industry.As we continue to invest in our people, technology and capabilities, we are looking for talented individuals who want to make a real impact and build a rewarding career within a world-class engineering environment.Key DutiesAssemble, build and fit complex centrifugal pump assemblies and associated equipment in line with engineering drawings, specifications and quality standards.Carry out mechanical fitting activities including bearing installation, shaft assembly, impeller fitting, seal installation and final pump build.Interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions and technical documentation to ensure accurate assembly of components.Use precision measuring equipment to verify dimensions, tolerances and alignmentWhat We're Looking ForTime-served Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Assembly Technician, or equivalent mechanical engineering apprenticeship.Experience assembling rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, gearboxes, turbines or similar precision-engineered machinery.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.Skilled in the use of hand tools, mechanical assembly equipment and precision measuring instruments.Strong understanding of mechanical tolerances, fits, alignments and assembly techniques.Experience working within a manufacturing, engineering or heavy industrial environment.A proactive approach to problem-solving with excellent attention to detail.What we offer youWe’ve recently invested significantly in modernising our Leeds facility — creating a brighter, more efficient, and more advanced workspace designed to support high‑quality work and a great employee experience.
