Job summary

The Queen at Chester Hotel is seeking a junior Sous Chef to join our culinary team and help deliver consistently high-quality food across the hotel. Working with the Head Chef, you will help lead the kitchen, bringing structure, calm and confidence to daily operations.

You will support menu delivery, uphold quality and presentation standards, and ensure the kitchen runs smoothly, especially in the Head Chef’s absence. This role offers opportunities to grow and develop within a historic property.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie.
• Ability to lead and support a kitchen team in a busy environment.
• Strong focus on food quality, consistency and presentation.
• Calm, organised and professional under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Support the executive Head Chef and senior sous chef in day-to-day kitchen operation.
• Take responsibility for the kitchen in the absence of the executive Head Chef and senior sous chef.
• Oversee food preparation to ensure high standards of cooking and presentation.
• Implement and follow standard recipes while maintaining food cost control.
• Lead, guide and support the kitchen team during service.
• Ensure all food safety, hygiene and health & safety standards are followed.
• Maintain a calm, organised and professional kitchen environment.
• Encourage teamwork and continuous improvement.
