Job summary

Westray Recruitment Consultants is helping a well‑established retailer in Gateshead recruit a hands‑on Retail Manager to lead day‑to‑day store performance and a motivated team. You will drive sales, manage stock, and ensure excellent customer service across both retail and trade customers.

The role requires commercial acumen, strong leadership, and a willingness to work five days out of six, including Saturdays.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a retail team or store.
• Ability to drive sales and improve performance.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and organisational ability.
• Ability to develop local business opportunities and community presence.
• Experience managing staff rotas and daily operations.
• Proficiency with MS Office and stock management or sales systems.
• Proactive problem-solving and decision-making.
• Willingness to be hands-on with physical duties and lifting.
• Flexibility to work five days out of six, including Saturdays.
• Experience in appliance retail or consumer goods is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Drive sales performance and achieve targets and margins.
• Lead and develop the team; motivate and support individuals.
• Deliver excellent customer experience for retail and trade customers.
• Identify opportunities to attract new customers and grow revenue.
• Raise the store's profile through promotions and local marketing.
• Manage staff rotas for six-day operation.
• Oversee deliveries, stock handling and inventory accuracy.
• Maintain competitive pricing and accurate stock records.
• Monitor sales and profitability, seek improvements.
• Ensure sales orders and admin are completed accurately.
• Maintain store presentation, organisation and customer service quality.
• Ensure health and safety procedures are followed.
• Support physical handling and movement of heavy appliances.
