Join us as an Anaesthetic Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner in our dynamic Main Theatres and Day Surgery department, where you'll play a pivotal role in delivering cutting‑edge care. You'll have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of specialties, including urology, general surgery, upper GI, breast, gynaecology, paediatrics, ENT, oral, plastic, ophthalmology, trauma & orthopaedics, CEPOD, robotics, and bariatric surgery. Theatre Facilities
  • 12 Theatres: 8 in the main theatre, 4 in Day Surgery Unit (DSU), plus support for 2 maternity theatres and IVF.
  • Diverse Specialties: Experience a wide range of procedures including Urology, General Surgery, Upper GI, Breast, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, ENT, Oral, Plastic, Ophthalmology, Trauma & Orthopaedics, CEPOD, Robotics and Bariatric surgeries.

Main duties of the job

At Kingston Hospital, we perform over 26,000 surgeries annually, utilizing our 12 cutting‑edge operating theatres to provide exceptional care to patients across South West London and Surrey. Joining our team means becoming part of a cohesive and skilled ensemble of theatre practitioners, surgeons, nurses, and anaesthetists, all dedicated to delivering specialised care throughout the patient journey.

Main Duties:

  • Clinical Care: Provide high‑quality patient care under supervision, including implementing basic and complex healthcare practices. Ensure safe techniques in patient and equipment handling, document care accurately, and participate in multi‑disciplinary decision‑making.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Effectively communicate with patients, relatives, and colleagues. Report incidents and contribute to team discussions. Provide clear explanations of nursing interventions and respond sensitively to others' needs.
  • Management & Leadership: Utilise resources effectively, delegate tasks to junior staff, support peers through preceptorship, and participate in policy development and quality audits. Engage in reflective practice and promote evidence‑based practices.
  • Governance: Maintain high standards of clinical care, keep patients informed, identify risks, and update clinical skills for ongoing professional development.
  • Education & Training: Identify personal development needs, participate in training, and adhere to health and safety policies.

Education/Qualification
  • First Level Registration / Registered Nurse (NMC) or an Operating Department Practitioner on the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). For ODPs, Diploma of Higher Education in Operating Department Practice or equivalent.
  • Theatre/Recovery Course.
Experience
  • Up‑to‑date clinical knowledge. Experience in an acute setting.
  • Reflective practice.
  • Possession of a current Professional Portfolio.
  • Significant post‑registration theatre/anaesthetic/recovery experience.
  • Evidence‑based practice and/or research skills.
  • Theatre / Anaesthetic / Recovery Experience.
