Key responsibilities
  • Work as an expert practitioner and deliver patient‑focused programmes of care addressing the complex health and well‑being needs of clients.

  • Manage people and financial resources to ensure effective operation of the team, guaranteeing an appropriate skill‑mix and caseload.

  • Be responsible for the quality of nursing care, ensuring holistic, evidence‑based, patient‑centred care and involving patients in decisions.
  • Maintain standards of cleanliness in the clinical area and keep a well‑maintained Ward/Department environment.
  • Prioritise workload to meet targets and alert nursing and operational management to quality issues.
  • Ensure the clinical area operates within Data Protection, Confidentiality and Caldicott principles.
  • Actively promote diversity and inclusivity in service delivery and staff recruitment, management and development; identify and address discrimination and oppression.
  • Promote interdisciplinary working with outcomes aimed at the best interests of patients.
Essential criteria
  • Significant acute medical nursing experience.
  • Dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic with a very high standard of clinical practice.
  • First degree level qualification.
  • Evidence of completed HMU competencies.
  • Successfully completed Critical Care Course.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, people & change management.
  • Significant experience at Band 6 or above.

Desirable criteria
  • Previous ward manager experience or leadership role.
  • Knowledge of HR policies and procedures.
  • Appropriate UK professional registration.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people – a Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service is required as per the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020.

Employment details

Band 7 Ward Manager Secondment position available for 9 months. Pensions and benefits are as set out below. All new appointments are subject to NHS Employment Checks and a 6‑month probationary period. The Trust reserves the right to close vacancies early if required.
