Job description

We’re on the lookout for a friendly, enthusiastic volunteer to help make our events run smoothly and create a positive experience for everyone who visits the Grand Union Canal, a beautiful jewel running through Brent.

No experience? No problem! We’ll provide all the support and guidance you need to succeed.

As an Ambassador Volunteer some of the things that you could do are:
  • Capture amazing moments at our events
  • Welcome attendees, sign them in, and ensure everyone feels at home.
  • Share information about the Canal & River Trust, our mission, volunteering opportunities, and assist with inductions.
  • Support our donation efforts to keep the Canals thriving.
What we’re looking for:
  • A local resident who knows and loves the Brent Canal area.
  • A friendly, can-do attitude.
  • Availability to support at events throughout the year on various days of the week.
  • Commitment of at least once a month or more if you would like.
  • We will have a meeting and you will get full training prior to starting.

Why we want you

Our Ambassadors help promote the value of our nations canals and rivers by attending events, being the smiling faces at one of our Welcome Stations, promoting our Share the Space campaigns and engaging with potential and existing supporters and customers alike. As an Ambassador you can help not only represent the Trust, but connect more people to our unique environment and raise awareness for canals.

Our Ambassadors are all about public events, specific opportunities when we invite members of the public to join us, learn more, try a new activity on the waterways and find out more about the Trust.

Our other events focused role (Waterside Leader) is for our volunteers who lead activities at events e.g. guided walks.

We have other roles which complement our Ambassadors by engaging with customers on a day to day basis, outside our events programmes: Rangers, Lock keepers, Explorers, Waterside Champions and Youth Engagement roles.

What you will be doing
  • Attending other organisations’ events and taking the Trust to them
  • Giving talks in the local community to adult groups
  • Promoting the waterways in other ways in your local community
  • Helping at events at our museums and attractions to share our amazing museums’ collection
