Job summary

Magellan Aerospace is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist in Wales to manufacture precision aircraft components using 3, 5 and 6-axis CNC centers. The role involves setting up, operating, and optimizing machines to meet tight tolerances from engineering drawings.

You will ensure tooling is appropriate, monitor fluids, program loading, and report non-conformances. We value safety, quality, and continuous improvement in a regulated aerospace environment, with opportunities for career development.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years’ CNC experience on 3- and 5-axis machines.
• GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English.
• Proficient with precision measuring equipment.
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Physical ability to lift up to 10 kg.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and monitor 3, 5, and 6 axis CNC machines.
• Machining to specification using detailed drawings and layouts.
• Ensure tooling is fit for purpose and advise on changes.
• Maintain metalworking fluid levels and disposal per guidelines.
• Load correct tools and programs; ensure accuracy and prevent scrap.
• Report non-conformances to Team Leader or Quality Inspector.
• Complete new product introduction on machines (proving out).
• Ensure measuring equipment is calibrated.
• Inspect parts against approved check sheets and maintain job cards.
• Maintain 6S standards and a clean, safe workspace.
• Follow processes to ensure efficiency and quality.
• Comply with EH&S policies and safe working systems.
• Identify hazards and contribute to corrective actions.
• Minimize scrap and downtime via preventive maintenance.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production to improve tooling and cycle times.
• Document production data and inspection results for traceability.
• Support kaizen and continuous improvement.
• Conduct Planned Preventative Maintenance checks on machines.
• Attend on-the-job training and handle other reasonable requests.
