Job summary

GKN Aerospace in Birmingham, GB, seeks a Chemical Lab Technician I for the 2nd shift to support operations with tests, analyses and inspections ensuring compliance with industry standards. The role requires laboratory discipline, data delivery to engineers, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

The candidate should have 2–3 years in a lab testing setting and a degree or diploma in Mechanical, Chemical or Materials Engineering, with familiarity to ASTM/AMS and related standards.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of experience in a process control or certification laboratory testing environment.
  • Familiarity with lab testing equipment and general specifications (e.g., ASTM, AMS).
  • Knowledge in Metallurgical, thermal spray coating and chemical analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Follow laboratory plans, procedures and instructions set forth by Engineering Department.
  • Provide data and information to lab personnel and customers as appropriate.
  • Deliver technical training and guidance to other GKN Laboratory Technicians.
  • Perform testing for chemical and metallurgical samples.
  • Ensure adherence to acceptance test procedures and inspections.
  • Support audits, round robin, and correlation testing when required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of production and inspection processes.

Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Material Engineering
