Introduction

The Chamber and Participation Team supports the business of the House and its Committees. The Official Report (Hansard), which sits within the Chamber and Participation Team produces the overnight and digital production of proceedings in the House and Committees.

The Role

As part of this role you will undertake a Business Administration Apprenticeship at Level 3. This is the academic equivalent of two A-levels. You will be enrolled onto the apprenticeship shortly after you join and it will typically take 18 months to complete. You will complete training for 20% of your time, including from an apprenticeship training provider. Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

  • Scheduling the parliamentary day on the HRS (Hansard Reporting Suite).
  • Helping produce and amend staffing rotas as required; helping monitor reporter attendance and ensure cover for absence.
  • Scanning Members' notes and briefs and making them available to all who need them.
  • Maintaining departmental files, records and reference documents.
  • Answering telephone and e-mail queries from members of the public, Members, Government Departments and Departments of the House. Monitor and maintain email inboxes.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Good written and oral communication skills, with the ability to express information in a clear manner with good attention to detail.
  • Ability to work inclusively and flexibly within a team, recognizes the important of diversity and inclusion, positively accepts constructive feedback and acts on advice given.
  • Ability to plan own workload to achieve deadlines. Recognises when additional support is needed to achieve tasks and knows when to seek support.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite, including Word, excel and Outlook. Also has the capability to learn new IT skills, including internal systems.
