Job description

Cardiff Council is committed to ensuring that anyone experiencing violence against women, domestic abuse, or sexual violence (VAWDASV) can access safe, suitable accommodation and the support they need to rebuild their lives.

Our Accommodation and Support Service works closely with specialist providers, housing services, and partner agencies to secure accommodation options that are safe, appropriate, and tailored to individual needs. We place survivors at the centre of everything we do, helping people move away from crisis situations and towards long-term stability, independence, and wellbeing.

About the job

We are looking for Accommodation Officers to join our team in sourcing and securing accommodation for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

You will assess housing needs, risks and support requirements to identify suitable accommodation options, including emergency accommodation, supported accommodation, temporary accommodation and move on opportunities. Working closely with accommodation providers, Housing Options and other partner agencies, you will coordinate placements, manage referrals and help ensure accommodation resources are used effectively to meet demand.

Opportunities are available across a range of specialist pathways supporting single adults, families, young people, prison leavers, victims and survivors of domestic abuse, and other vulnerable groups. Accommodation Officers are based across a variety of locations and services throughout Cardiff, including Central Library Hub, Cardiff Royal Infirmary, Cardiff Prison and others depending on the needs of the service. This is a varied and rewarding role that combines housing knowledge, partnership working and a person centred approach

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting people and committed to improving services for those affected by domestic abuse and homelessness.

You will have:

  • Experience of working with vulnerable individuals, ideally within housing, homelessness, domestic abuse, safeguarding, or support services.
  • The ability to assess needs, risks, and accommodation suitability in a sensitive and professional manner.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy and demanding caseload.
  • Excellent communication and partnership-working skills, with the confidence to work effectively across a range of services and organisations.
  • An understanding of housing, homelessness, safeguarding, and equality principles, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge.
  • A commitment to delivering person-centred services that promote safety, dignity, and positive outcomes.

Most importantly, you will be empathetic, resilient, and motivated by the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of people experiencing some of the most challenging circumstances.

You may be required to work until 19:00 hours to meet the demands of a very busy service.
