Job description

The Accommodation and Support Manager role sits within Cardiff Council's Housing Need and Homelessness Service which plays a vital role in preventing and relieving homelessness across the city. We work with individuals and families experiencing housing difficulties, providing advice, support and access to accommodation to help people achieve sustainable housing outcomes.

As demand for homeless services continues to grow, we are committed to delivering person-centred services that focus on prevention, early intervention and ensuring people receive the right support at the right time. Working closely with a wide range of internal and external partners, we help some of the city's most vulnerable residents’ access safe accommodation and the support they need to maintain it.

Our Temporary and Supported Accommodation Service is at the heart of this work, ensuring accommodation resources are used effectively and that people experiencing homelessness are provided with accommodation that reflects their individual needs, circumstances and support requirements.

About the job

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Accommodation and Support Manager to lead our Temporary Accommodation Service.

This is a key management role responsible for leading teams that assess the needs of people who are homeless and make informed decisions about the most appropriate accommodation options available. You will oversee pathways into temporary and supported accommodation, ensuring placements are made efficiently, effectively and in line with legislative requirements, service standards and the needs of individual households.

You will work closely with accommodation providers, support services, health services, criminal justice partners and other stakeholders to ensure accommodation resources are utilised effectively and that clients receive coordinated support to achieve positive housing outcomes.

The successful candidate will have excellent leadership, communication and partnership working skills, with the ability to manage performance, drive service improvement and respond positively to the challenges of a fast-paced operational environment. You will be passionate about delivering high-quality services, developing staff and working collaboratively with partners to improve outcomes for people experiencing homelessness.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape accommodation services during a period of significant change, contributing to Cardiff Council's ambition to prevent homelessness wherever possible and ensure that those who do experience homelessness receive the right accommodation and support to move forward successfully.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting people and committed to improving services for those affected by homelessness.

You will have:

  • Experience of working with vulnerable individuals, ideally within housing, homelessness, safeguarding, or support services.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a busy and demanding caseload.
  • Excellent communication and partnership-working skills, with the confidence to work effectively across a range of services and organisations.
  • An understanding of housing, homelessness, safeguarding, and equality principles, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge.
  • A commitment to delivering person-centred services that promote safety, dignity, and positive outcomes.

Most importantly, you will be empathetic, resilient, and motivated by the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of people experiencing some of the most challenging circumstances.

You may be required to work until 19:00 hours to meet the demands of a very busy service.
