Job summary

National Highways in the West Midlands is seeking a Control Room Operator based at our Birmingham Regional Operations Centre. You will monitor traffic, coordinate incidents, and support road maintenance to keep journeys safe and smooth.

You will work 6 days on, 3 off, 24/7 coverage with shifts including early, late, nights. Strong communication, calm under pressure, and comfort with technology are essential, along with GCSEs in maths and English.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent.
• Willingness to work shifts as part of a 24/7 cover.
• Strong communication skills and ability to problem-solve under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Monitor live traffic conditions using CCTV cameras, sensors, and real-time feeds to track traffic flow and incidents.
• Coordinate incident responses, including dispatching traffic officers and alerting emergency services.
• Provide timely information to road users via dynamic signs and traffic information services.
• Collaborate with police, fire services, and local authorities to manage incidents safely.
• Assist with coordinating road maintenance and construction work to minimize disruption.
