Job summary

National Highways is hiring a Control Room Operator to be the first line of support for roadside calls. You’ll monitor traffic, coordinate responses with emergency services, and guide road users with accurate information from CCTV and live feeds.

The role operates 24/7, 6 days on/3 days off, with shifts including early, late, and nights. Starting salary up to £38,862.50 plus 25% shift allowance and £1500 RRA, rising to £40,400 after 9 months.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and a calm, solution-focused approach.
• Ability to work shifts as part of 24/7 cover.
• Typing proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Monitor live traffic conditions using CCTV, sensors and data feeds.
• Coordinate immediate responses to incidents, liaise with emergency services and set up closures.
• Provide accurate information to road users and update road signs.
• Work with police, fire services and local authorities to manage incidents.
• Coordinate road maintenance activities ensuring safety and minimal disruption.
