Job summary

National Highways is seeking a Control Room Operator to be the first line of support for roadside calls, coordinating with emergency services and ensuring safe maintenance across the network.

You will monitor CCTV and traffic data, provide timely information to road users, and work with police and local authorities to manage incidents and keep road networks moving. This role operates on a 24/7 shift pattern, contributing to safer, smoother journeys across the country.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent.
• Willing to work shifts as part of a 24/7 cover.
• Good typing proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Monitor live traffic conditions using CCTV, sensors and real‑time data feeds to track flow and incidents.
• Coordinate incident response, including dispatching traffic officers and alerting emergency services.
• Provide accurate, timely information to road users and update digital road signs and traffic information services.
• Collaborate with police, fire services and local authorities to ensure safety of road users.
• Coordinate road maintenance and construction work to minimise disruption.
