Job summary

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking a proactive Switchboard Operator to join our busy team at New Cross Hospital. You will handle a high volume of calls, guide callers to the correct departments, and contribute to a calm, professional telephony service 24/7 across hospital sites.

Flexibility to cover day, evening and night shifts is essential, with training provided. Prior switchboard experience is helpful but not required, as we will train the right candidate to maintain compassionate,

Qualifications

• 4 GCSEs passes or equivalent, with English.
• NVQ 3 in Customer Services or equivalent (Desirable).
• Experience in a busy, customer-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate VDU consoles and manage internal/external directory to route calls.
• Communicate clearly with customers, visitors, colleagues and management.
• Handle sensitive information professionally and discreetly.
• Receive and respond to alarms and requests using paging systems when required.
• Maintain 24/7 service with shift coverage including nights and bank holidays.
• Record actions and update contact records for emergency or major incidents.
