Job Purpose

Working towards the achievement of Health Play Specialist.

Responsibilities
  • Organise play and recreational activities for all children and young people (patients and siblings) within a variety of settings in the Children’s Service and other areas of the Trust as required.
  • Manage and maintain a child-focused environment where play occurs naturally.
  • Gain theoretical knowledge and evidence-based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic play interventions in hospital.
  • Document therapeutic interventions and outcomes.
  • Develop skills, knowledge and be responsible for own practice.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of the emotional needs of children in hospital, the psychosocial effects of hospitalisation and the importance of play within the multi-disciplinary team.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post. Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
