Job summary

Smile Education is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a primary school in Dudley, providing 1:1 support to a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Key Stage 1.

You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to offer individualized support throughout the school day, helping the pupil access learning and participate in activities while supporting communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with ASD or other special educational needs would be beneficial.
• Experience in a primary school or with children in Key Stage 1 is desirable.
• Experience in education, childcare, or support roles with the right approach is welcome.

Responsibilities

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a KS1 pupil with ASD.
• Helping the pupil access classroom learning and take part in activities.
• Supporting communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.
• Using agreed strategies to help the pupil manage transitions and changes to routine.
• Encouraging independence and positive behaviour.
• Providing reassurance and maintaining a calm, consistent approach.
• Adapting activities and learning tasks where needed.
• Supporting the pupil during lessons, break times and other parts of the school day.
• Building a positive and trusting relationship with the child.
• Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team.
• Monitoring progress and sharing observations with relevant staff.
