Job summary

TeacherActive is working with a welcoming primary school in Rubery, Birmingham, seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child with autism in Reception.

You will work 8:30am–3:30pm, 1:1 support throughout the school day, helping the child access learning, develop social skills, and engage with peers and teachers, under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with autism.
• Experience in a primary school or EYFS setting.
• Patience, empathy, resilience, and a calm approach to supporting individual needs.
• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Deliver personalised 1:1 support tailored to the child's individual needs.
• Support learning activities and encourage participation across the curriculum.
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement IEPs.
• Use effective strategies to support communication, emotional regulation, social interaction, and engagement.
• Assist with routines, transitions, and structured activities throughout the school day.
• Foster a positive, trusting relationship with the child and their family.
• Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff and SEN professionals.
• Promote inclusion and help create a positive learning environment where the child can succeed.
