Job summary

Connex Education Partnership is seeking a caring 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a mainstream primary school in Birmingham. You will provide tailored classroom support to promote communication, independence and social development while ensuring a safe learning environment.

The role involves working closely with the class teacher and school team, monitoring progress and applying agreed strategies to support the pupil’s needs and behaviours.

Qualifications

• Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent UK educational qualification is desirable.
• Previous experience in education is essential.
• Commitment to equality and diversity in the classroom.
• Experience supporting SEN is required.
• Understanding of child protection and safeguarding guidelines.
• Enhanced DBS on update service or willingness to apply for one.

Responsibilities

• Support a pupil with ASD in a mainstream primary school.
• Provide tailored classroom support to promote independence and social development.
• Encourage communication and positive behaviour within the learning environment.
• Help manage occasional minor self-injurious behaviours using agreed strategies.
• Collaborate with the class teacher and school team to monitor progress.
• Create a safe, supportive learning environment for the pupil to thrive.
