Job summary

Protocol Education are looking for a caring and committed 1:1 Autism Teaching Assistant to support a pupil within a specialist SEND setting in Ferryhill. The role focuses on building trust, providing consistency and helping the pupil feel confident within their school environment.

You'll work closely with the pupil throughout the day, supporting learning, communication, emotional regulation and independence, with hours 8:30am–3:30pm and pay £98–£120 per day depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Experience with autism is desirable.
• Transferable experience in care, residential support, psychology, youth work or similar settings is considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
• Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil.
• Support access to lessons and classroom activities.
• Assist with transitions and daily routines.
• Encourage communication and social interaction.
• Support emotional and sensory regulation.
• Follow individualised support strategies.
• Promote independence and positive behaviour.
• Support the pupil during break and lunchtime.
• Encourage appropriate interaction with peers.
• Provide reassurance when the pupil is experiencing difficulties.
• Record and share relevant observations with the wider team.

This role is centred around building trust, providing consistency and helping a pupil feel confident within their school environment. You'll work closely with the pupil throughout the day, supporting their learning, communication, emotional regulation and independence.
