Job summary

Protocol Education is recruiting a compassionate 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support an autistic pupil in Ferryhill. The role is full time, term time only, with hours 8:30am-3:30pm and pay between £98-£120 per day depending on experience. Start date is September 2026.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and SEND professionals to deliver tailored support, encourage engagement, and promote independence and positive behaviour throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Experience with SEND, especially autism, is valued but not mandatory.
• All applicants must have the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
• A patient, consistent and positive presence is essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to the pupil.
• Help the pupil engage with lessons.
• Support classroom routines and transitions.
• Encourage communication with the pupil and peers.
• Support sensory and emotional needs.
• Help develop social skills.
• Promote positive interactions with peers.
• Encourage independence and appropriate behaviour.
• Provide reassurance as needed.
• Support during breaks and lunchtimes.
• Follow personalised strategies and plans.
• Keep staff informed of observations and progress.
