Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting for a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to work in a welcoming SEN primary school in the Wigan area. You will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil throughout the school day, helping them access learning and achieve personalised targets within a nurturing environment.

The role involves collaborating with teachers and SEN professionals, implementing EHCP targets and supporting emotional development while promoting inclusion and positive behaviour.

1:1 Learning Support Assistant

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to work within a welcoming and supportive SEN primary school in the Wigan area. This specialist provision supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN) and sensory processing difficulties. The school is committed to providing a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every child is supported to achieve their full potential.

The Role

As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will provide dedicated support to an individual pupil throughout the school day, helping them access learning, develop confidence, and achieve personalised targets. Working closely with class teachers and SEN professionals, you will play a key role in supporting the child's educational and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing consistent 1:1 support tailored to the individual needs of a pupil.
  • Supporting the child to engage positively in lessons and classroom activities.
  • Assisting with the implementation of Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
  • Adapting learning activities and resources to meet the pupil's needs.
  • Encouraging communication, social interaction, and independence.
  • Supporting emotional regulation and the use of positive behaviour strategies.
  • Building a trusting and supportive relationship with the pupil.
  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to teachers and SENCOs.
  • Supporting the child's participation during breaktimes, educational visits, and enrichment activities.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes for the pupil.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, either in schools or other support-based environments.
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic nature.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children and staff.
  • Confidence supporting children with additional learning or behavioural needs.
  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and resilient in a variety of situations.
