Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a dedicated 1:1 Autism Support Teaching Assistant for a full-time role at a welcoming primary school in Wythenshawe. The role focuses on helping a pupil access learning, develop social and communication skills, and thrive within the school.

You will provide 1:1 support, adapt activities for ASC needs, and work with staff to implement strategies, ensuring a nurturing, patient approach and safeguarding in a collaborative setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

The Role

As a 1:1 Autism Support Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated support to a pupil with autism, helping them engage in learning, develop positive relationships, and build confidence both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil's individual needs and learning style
• Support the development of communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation skills
• Implement strategies recommended by the SENCo and external professionals
• Encourage independence, confidence, and engagement in classroom activities
• Help manage transitions, routines, and sensory needs throughout the school day
• Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and parents where appropriate
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for the child

About You

The ideal candidate will:

• Have previous experience supporting children with autism or additional needs
• Demonstrate patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach
• Understand strategies that support children with ASC, including sensory and communication needs
• Be confident managing challenging behaviours in a calm and positive manner
• Possess strong communication and teamwork skills
• Be adaptable and able to respond to the individual needs of the pupil
• Hold GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
• Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
