Job Description

The Role

The Digital Cinematographer will be responsible for creating camera composition, staging, blocking, and shot layouts for Game Cinematics and other full CG projects. They will collaborate closely with Directors, Clients, and other creatives to achieve and enhance their creative vision. Candidates must demonstrate strong fundamentals of visual storytelling through movement, framing, and composition. This role involves hands-on work using traditional VFX workflows, Realtime DCCs, and Virtual Production, depending on project needs. The Cinematographer will work closely with the Mill’s Directors, Animators, Previz, and Layout artists but should also be capable of working independently.

This role reports directly to the Heads of CG at the Mill LA and involves collaboration with the Mill’s India office for large projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of cameras, lenses, and cinematography in both practical and CG contexts. They may serve as lead artist or supervisor depending on project scale. Comfort with VFX production pipelines, providing constructive feedback, and receiving internal and external critiques is essential.

Experience with real-time engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, and Frostbite is highly desirable.

Responsibilities :

1. Create and supervise shot framing, blocking, and layout for full CG projects.
2. Work within VFX or Realtime pipelines using hand animation, virtual production, and mocap.
3. Have an exceptional understanding of cameras, lenses, and composition principles.
4. Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
5. Collaborate with CG and Realtime artists to produce high-quality final images.
6. Participate in meetings with teams in LA and India.
7. Coordinate with Directors, Creative Directors, CG Supervisors, VFX Supervisors, and HODs to ensure deliverables meet high standards and project requirements.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in production.
• 5+ years of experience with CG camera animation.
• Proactive and self-driven problem solver.
• Experience in Virtual Production.
• Practical Cinematography experience is a bonus.
• Proficiency in Maya and other 3D tools.
• Experience or familiarity with Realtime projects.
• Ability to adapt to new pipelines and seek continuous improvement.
• Proven ability to work with clients and deliver diverse visual styles.
