European Payments Initiative seeks a senior backend engineer to own end-to-end features, from API design to deployment and monitoring, within the Disputes team. You will shape cloud-native microservices, ensure scalable, secure services, and collaborate across product, frontend, and QA to deliver high-quality payments solutions.

The role requires 7+ years in software development with at least 5 years backend, a CS/engineering degree, and strong English skills.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience with at least 5 years in backend development.
• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field is preferred.
• Fluent in English (CEFR C1/C2); French, German, Dutch are a plus.
• Thrives in a remote-first, multicultural environment.

Responsabilités

• Own and deliver backend features end to end from API design to deployment and support.
• Lead architecture and evolution of cloud-based microservices for scalability, performance and security.
• Uphold high code quality and documentation standards for maintainable services.
• Support frontend engineers with backend guidance on APIs and data contracts.
• Drive backend platform decisions aligned with current and future product needs.
• Balance platform consistency with web-specific requirements and pragmatic trade-offs.
• Improve reliability, developer experience and delivery speed for mobile and platform teams.
• Collaborate with product, design, frontend, QA and other backend teams for aligned delivery.
