European Payments Initiative (EPI) is building Wero, a pan-European digital wallet to simplify and secure payments across borders. We are expanding our Disputes team to own backend features end to end, shaping architecture, and delivering scalable microservices in a remote-first setup with quarterly in-person meetups.

You will collaborate with product, frontend, QA and other backend teams to ensure robust API contracts, performance, and reliability while maintaining high code quality and

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience in software development, including at least 5 years of backend development.
• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field is preferred.
• Fluent in English (CEFR C1 or C2); French, German, Dutch or other European languages are a plus.
• Thrive in a remote-first, multicultural environment.

Responsabilités

• Own and deliver backend features end to end, from API design and implementation to deployment, monitoring and operational support.
• Lead the architecture and evolution of EPI’s cloud-based microservices, ensuring scalability, performance, security and alignment with mobile and business needs.
• Define and uphold high code quality standards, applying best practices for maintainable and testable services.
• Support frontend engineers with backend expertise, guidance on API usage, data contracts and performance considerations.
• Drive backend platform decisions with a clear understanding of current product requirements and future growth.
• Balance platform consistency with web-specific needs, making pragmatic technical trade-offs.
• Improve backend reliability, developer experience and delivery speed for mobile and platform teams.
• Collaborate with product management, design, frontend, QA and other backend teams to ensure aligned and efficient delivery.
